YMCA of Bucks and Hunterdon Counties welcomed 5,220 individuals into their branches to use the Y for free with the “Here For Our Community” initiative. With over 13,000 total visits between November 21, 2022, and January 8, 2023, community members improved their physical, mental and emotional health during what can be a very challenging time of year.

“I was thrilled with the free six-week community trial membership at the Y,” said Christine Conz,  who visited the Quakertown branch. “I used that time to attend many group exercise classes and to get to know the participants in those classes.”

In 2021, the YMCA committed resources to help the community get back to life, and  improved health and well-being following the challenges of the pandemic. As a result of the  appreciation shared by participants of the initiative in 2021, the YMCA offered “Here For Our  Community” again in 2022, providing free opportunities for everyone in the community to connect and engage with others to meet social, physical and mental well-being needs.

“Because the trial fell over the winter holidays,” Conz continued, “I could try out both evening classes (which will fit into my regular routine) as well as day classes (which fit into my holiday schedule). By the time the trial was over, I was hooked!”

As part of the initiative, the YMCA made fitness centers, pools, gymnasiums and classes available for free at all seven branches, as well as offered free virtual wellness for the  entire community through Y Wellness 24/7. The virtual platform provides thousands of weekly live and on-demand health and wellness programs for all abilities and interests.

“I am thrilled that so many people found this initiative valuable for their lives,” said Zane Moore, president/CEO of YMCA of Bucks and Hunterdon Counties. “For many people, 2022 was just as challenging as last year, and the winter holidays can sometimes provoke stress or feelings of loneliness. We hope everyone who tried the Y felt the benefits and will continue to pursue  wellness as part of our Y family.”
