veterans wellness participants trying wheelchair basketballOn Monday November 6, members of the YMCA Veterans Wellness Pathway program paid a visit to the We All Wheel Pathway program at the Doylestown branch of YMCA of Bucks and Hunterdon Counties. We All Wheel is a unique, donor-funded recreational program that teaches children of all ages and abilities the fun of wheelchair basketball. It is designed to join children who have lower extremity disabilities in sport with children without disabilities, and led by Kira Liples.

Retired Marine Jonathan Chuyark rolled right into the fray.

“I had a really good time,” said Jon. “The confidence it gives the kids with disabilities is so rewarding to see. It was a lot of fun and quite a workout!”

“Most of the kids at We All Wheel don’t have disabilities,” observed Fmr. Air Force Lieutenant Dan Grady. “They are there supporting their friends who are. It’s so great to see them learning empathy and respect for each other, regardless of their abilities. I was really moved.”

Jon and Dan are both participants in the donor-funded Veterans Wellness Pathway program of YMCA of Bucks and Hunterdon Counties. The free 12-week program, coordinated by YMCA Director of Group Wellness and Engagement Megan McCuen, is designed for Military Veterans and spouses/partners of all ages and abilities who are looking to get back to a healthier lifestyle.
