For children age 3-5
Program run seasonally during the summer

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drowning remains the leading cause of death in young children and knowing how to swim and be safe around water is an important skill for youth. Teaching children how to be safe around water is not a luxury; it is a necessity. The YMCA’s Safety Around Water program can help you make sure they learn essential water safety skills, which can open up a world of possibilities for them to satisfy their curiosity safely.

Our Safety Around Water program for children ages 3-5 years and aims to ensure that youth who qualify through a swim evaluation receive vital swim lessons to ensuring that, upon completion, they can meet swim goals.  The programs aims to demonstrate the following:

  • children know and can demonstrate what to do if they fall into the water, including how to float on their back
  • perform a safe, basic water rescue from the edge of the pool
  • swim on their front and then roll into a back float
  • jump in, swim and return to wall

The lessons are provided free to those who qualify, along with a free 8-week youth membership to encourage practice time.
